Comparison of Perceived Satisfaction on Nursing Care between Patients and Nurses





Abstract
The perceived satisfaction of patients as care-receiver (provided by nurses as care-giver) during nursing care process is considered important not only in the establishment of efficient nursing care but also in the evaluation of nursing intervention effectiveness in the hospital. Following work was undertaken to find out the difference of perceived satisfaction in patients and nurses during nursing care. 185 patients admitted for more than 5 days and 148 nurses employed in the same hospital were subjected to respond to the same questionnaires in the Quality Patient Care Scale developed by Wandelt and Ager. The data collected were analyzed using Anova and t-test.
The findings obtained were summarized as follows:
1. About 60 % of patients were female and the mean age of them was 41 year-old. Forty five percent of patients were admitted more than 3 weeks. In contrast, about 40 % of nurses belonged to the age group of twenties (25?29 yrs.) and 68 % of them was unmarried. A quarter of nurses had the clinical experiences less than one year and nurses who have worked in the clinic more than 5 years were 23 %.
2. The perceived satisfaction score of patients were varied significantly with age, martial status and education level while that of nurse showed the significant differences depending upon age, marital status and clinical experiences.
3. The satisfaction score of patients was higher than that of nurses in the same items. Patients showed the significant higher scores in the psycho-social and communication aspects than nurses, whereas lower score in physical aspects than nurses.
